What’s liaison interpreting?

A liaison interpreter is a consecutive interpreter but the speaker and the interpreter both talk for shorter periods. The speaker makes room for the interpreter to speak every two or three sentences to make sure the conversation flows.

This doesn’t require technical equipment either. The interpreter may take notes, but this isn’t normally necessary because the speaker and interpreter alternate quickly.

Benefits of liaison interpreting

MORE INTERACTIVE

The conversation flows smoothly because the interpreter speaks every two or three sentences.

LOWER COSTS

Liaison interpreting is less costly than simultaneous interpreting because it requires a single interpreter and no technical equipment.

NO NEED FOR EXTRA SPACE

You don’t need any extra space for the interpreting booth(s) because the interpreter will use a notebook and pen and will be seated next to the speaker.
