What’s consecutive interpreting?

A consecutive interpreter listens to the speaker while taking notes and then translates the message in another language when the speaker pauses. The speaker talks no more than six minutes and then the interpreter speaks.

This type of interpreting doesn’t require any technical equipment. The interpreter will usually be seated or standing next to the speaker(s) and will use a notebook and pen to take notes.

Benefits of consecutive interpreting

LOWER COSTS

Consecutive interpreting is less costly than simultaneous interpreting because it requires a single interpreter and no technical equipment.

NO NEED FOR EXTRA SPACE

You don’t need any extra space for the interpreting booth(s) because the interpreter will use a notebook and pen and will be seated next to the speaker.
